DESIGNING A NEW BRAND

Following a recommendation from a previous client, we were put in touch with Adam Savage, affectionately known as Gorilla Man Fitness, who’s specialism in supporting people with brain injuries and physical disabilities comes from his own personal experience of overcoming both. Once we heard the incredible journey the story of his life had taken him on, we felt compelled to support him with a pro bono arrangement to help update his brand identity as he took the next step by becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC).

We chatted with Adam to find out more about the people he works with and the activities he offers and realised that it was important to not only provide him with a solution that he could be proud of, but that would also resonate with his clients. A gorilla isn’t exactly the friendliest of animals so we wanted to make sure the logo didn’t scare his clients away!

We developed a few options for him to consider and advised him to discuss them with friends, family and supporters to see which route he’d like to take.

The decision was made and Gorilla Man Fitness was born!

DEVELOPING A LOGO

We created a gorilla symbol within the shape of a kettlebell and embedded it within the word ‘Gorilla’. The result was a strong and powerful wordmark with a friendly and approachable feel. To complement this we developed a mono colour palette which matched Adam’s favourite brands with a pop of acid yellow to make the brand really stand out.

From the outset Adam was keen to have some branded clothing so that he could turn up to an appointment looking professional. We produced a branded polo top, hoodie and snapback hat using a variety of the logo and the symbol – Adam loved them so much we don’t think he’s taken them off since!

DIRECTING A PHOTOSHOOT

Working with the photographer Nicola Auckland, who also kindly provided her time for free, we organised a photoshoot so we would have some professional images of Adam to use across the promotional items he required. Wearing his new merch the final images are a lovely blend of professionalism and approachability.

A major deadline was Adam’s planned appearance in his local Asda store where he’d been invited to promote his services to the local community. To support all the other items we had produced for him we designed a pull up banner to ensure everyone saw him as they entered or left the store!

Seeing all of the brand components come together for this event was a proud moment for the KYAK team.
