Creating a suite of posters for a world class sailing team

We were delighted to be asked recently by the Royal Yachting Association to design a suite of posters to help promote the British Sailing Team prior to their endeavours at the summer games due to be held in Japan

The brief asked for a unifying identity across the posters that had a distinctive Japanese theme without being too crass. At the same time we had to work with pre-existing photos of the sailors in action and to figure out how best to incorporate them into the design.

What developed was a range of posters using the classic illustration of ‘The Great Wave of Kanagawa’ as the base for the design, alternating Japanese patterns for the background together with a Japanese inspired colour palette and a symbol for the word ‘Passion’.

The posters were such a hit with the RYA that we were also asked to produce exhibition graphics for the Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace which saw the style recreated and additional graphics produced for a younger audience.
